OLD ENGINE 5-12-2 LEAVES TOWN AND HEADS FOR NEW YORK
Thursday, June 24, 2010
-
After serving the Willow Street Fire Co since 1998 the old engine 5-12-2 will leave the firehouse for the last time today. Engine 2 is known around the county for its famous "pink" paint job. Engine 2 has supplied many  fires throughout the years and served our company well. It also was a rescue pumper responding with the rescue on all related calls. Since the department started using firehouse software in January of 1999, engine 2 has answered 1767 calls for service.

The engine was purchased by the West Colesville Fire Co in New York. They will be using the engine as a supply piece for their area. We wish them all the luck. We hope it serves their community as well as it did ours for many years.

PECO DRILL AND A GAS LEAK
Wednesday, June 23, 2010
-
This evening the members travelled to the LS High School to participate in the PECO drill.  In the event of a nuclear emergency at Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant the members of Lampeter and Willow Street are trained in monitoring evacuees from the affected area.  The Lampeter Strasburg High School is an evacuation site in the event of an emergency and all evacuees coming to the site are to be monitored to be sure they have no radioactive material on them.   The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has personnel that observe the drill to be sure the protocols are being followed and to "grade" the responders.  We as emergency responders hope that we never have to put these measures into effect for real; however, we train for this like we train for other emergencies and are prepared if need be.

During the exercise the Companies were dispatched to a gas leak on Cindy Dr in Lampeters first due.  A pin hole leak was found in a 1,000 gallon propane tank.  The gas company was called and the 5-12 units were available a short time later.  Chief 5-4-2 (Rhineer Sr) had the 5-4 command.

NEW ENGINE INSPECTION COMPLETE
Wednesday, June 23, 2010
-
Over the last 3 days members have been working on several projects involving the "New and Old" engine 5-12-2. On Sunday afternoon Deputy Dave Reese,  Assistant Chief Fawber, Captain Rhineer, President Donnelly, Treasurer Stoltzfus and Pierce Salesman Curt "Hen" Woerth of Glick Fire Equipment travelled to the Pierce Factory in Appleton, WI.  The group spent Monday and Tuesday at the Pierce Factory looking over and inspecting the engine. Each department that purchases a piece of equipment from Pierce are flown to the factory with the salesman to look over the vehicle. The inspection is done in the famous "Blue Room" . This building was built by Pierce for all new vehicles to be inspected by the purchasing department. Every department has to inspect their vehicle to ensure that the vehicle matches the specifications that were originally agreed to.  The members were also treated to several tours of the plant. The group got to see the apparatus build process from start to finish.

We would like to thank our salesman Curt "Hen" Woerth and Glick Fire Equipment  for everything they have done for the members of the Willow Street Fire Co.  The people that work at Pierce are second to none.

For those that are wondering when the new engine may be arriving in Lancaster County ... We are hoping by Friday afternoon.  We will keep you posted...
